Our Trainers

  • Jason Broomfield

    Jason Broomfield

Fall River, MA - 17 Years in fitness

I was an All State Basketball player in High School and was in decent shape through God given genetics.... Some years later I was asked to play in a league and when my team was chosen to be "skins" I removed my shirt and was laughed at.  That day I vowed that would never happen again.  The next day I hired a personal trainer and, not only got back in shape but, was able to achieve fitness goals beyond even my wildest dreams.  I then dedicated my life to others in the same situation that I found myself in that fateful day on the basketball court..... NEVER AGAIN!!!!

I combine biomechanics, kinesiology as well as science and common sense to personalize a plan to each and every individual.  We won't just add years to your life, we'll add life to your years! My passion is working with anyone who is willing to make a change.

  • Jason Cole

    Jason Cole

Randolph, MA - 15 years of experience

I became a trainer to show people the unlimited possibilities of reaching their fitness goals whether they're an athlete, or a regular Joe who is stuck in a rut or a housewife who is trying to get back in shape after having children.

I get results for clients by giving them every ounce of knowledge that I have about fitness as well as programs specifically designed for them to achieve maximum results. My philosophy on training is to be in constant movement even while at rest.  I prefer functional training which is based off of natural movements of the body to allow me to work all parts of the body in one session.

My passion is giving good service to each client, whether it's a complimentary session or they meet with me eight or ten times per month. Each client is a success story because I design programs for physical and mental success!

  • Igor Marroquin

    Igor Marroquin

Warwick, RI - 8 years in Fitness

I became a trainer to be able to make a positive impact in people's everyday lives.  I consider exercise and fitness as essential components to a long, happy, and rewarding life, not options.

The best results come not from the trainer setting goals or standards, but from listening to the individual client and helping them understand what it is they really want to accomplish and together designing a plan of action. My training philosophy stresses an integrated approach to overall fitness, health, and well-being incorporating strength and endurance training, flexibility, balance and coordination, and cardio-vascular fitness as well as proper nutrition to improve all aspects of life.

My passion has evolved over time from just helping people overcome obstacles and barriers to actually seeing how lives dramatically change through my guidance and support.

  • Dan Bourelle

    Dan Bourelle

    Wilmington, NC - Racine

I've been coaching/training others in the fitness industry since 1997. I've been with Professional Fitness since April 2009.

I had both competed in and coached/taught martial arts for numerous years.  While we trained hard, I didn't feel like we had trained smart, so I decided to study and get certified as a Personal Trainer to become better at nutrition and designing efficient workouts for myself and those I coached.  Upon completing my certification I saw an ad looking for Personal Trainers at the gym I belonged to and figured, why not?  I loved training people, I loved the gym, I loved the people in the gym, so I may as well get paid to do what I already do!

My approach to training my clients is to teach them what I have them doing so they understand how to do it on their own.  I can't be next to them telling them what to do every moment of the day, so I make an effort to explain the "how's" and "why's" of resistance training, cardio training and nutrition.  My specialty is martial arts conditioning, high intensity workouts and core strengthening as I am a certified MMA Conditioning Coach and working towards my Core Strengthening certification.  However, like I mentioned in the previous question, I don't force all of my clients to do this.  It's not for everyone!  It's my job to find out what works best for you, not what's easiest for me.

Many clients share stories with me about how building some functional strength and losing some weight has made their life easier!  For instance, one client who was a musician, physically struggled to move her own amps and instruments.  Within a couple months of resistance training she was elated to tell me she was able to lift and move them with ease!  Other clients have mentioned the ease of doing yard and house work, without pain and without hiring help!  Yet another client whose job consisted of delivering large boxes saw her work efficiency increase since she no longer had to stop and rest frequently from lack of strength/endurance and excess weight.

  • Michael Crehan

    Michael Crehan

    WOW Waterford, CT

I became a trainer because throughout all of my years of exercising, I've noticed how hard it is for most people to do it properly.  Most people make it too complicated and/or they don't put in enough time and hard work.  People need guidance in choosing the correct
exercises, the correct pace, properly planning their training, and making the correct food choices.

My motto is "If you truly want results and work hard to get them, you will get more than you dreamed."

The key to designing an effective fitness program is individualization. Different workouts work well for different people.  I start by doing a wide variety of exercises to figure out an individual's strengths and weaknesses.  From there, the key is to improve the weaknesses
such as mobility, flexibility, balance, strength, etc.  Once the weaknesses are improved, you will be ready for much more variety and intensity which lead to further results.  My specialties are Olympic weightlifting and balance exercises.  Olympic style lifts are among the best for building muscle, which is extremely important for increasing metabolism.  Balance exercises are great for stability, which helps with all aspects of fitness, especially reducing risk of injury.

I have aclient named Matt who is trying to get into the United States Air Force.  1 Year ago, he was well over 200 pounds which is beyond the Air Force accepted weight for his height.  After lots of hard work over the past 8 months, he is now under 190 with increased strength and energy levels.

Years in the fitness industry: 5 years

I enjoy helping people meet personal and professional goals!!!

If your mind is the limit, let me get your body past that.

My basic approach to training is simple, like building a house; I start from the foundation up. My specialty is strength training and power lifting.

  • Liz Tomalesky

    Liz Tomalesky

    Hope Mills

I've been in the Fitness Industry for 5 years.

Since I was kid I enjoyed doing exercise and learning about the best way to eat healthy. By becoming a trainer it gave me the opportunity to help people with all their fitness needs. I not only enjoy sharing my knowledge with them but learning from them too.

I believe in the human body. The capacity that we have to work out our body is extraordinary. I enjoy when my clients start training, saying "I cannot do this" and after a few weeks I can see in their faces that they are excited doing the exercises with confidence and determination. That is what it is all about.

My approach is twofold - do each exercise correctly and educate my clients on the importance of nutrition. People waste a lot of time working out doing exercises with poor form. By doing the exercises correctly my client gets more out of them in less time. It also helps avoid any further damage to existing ailments or creating new ones. Additionally, I like to give my clients a written workout plan so they can their exercise routine on their own. As with any good workout program nutrition is as important as proper execution of the exercises. I like to explain to my clients what calories mean and how many calories they need during the day based on their goals. This includes discussing types and quantity of food that offer the best nutritional value and assist them in planning their meals each day.

  • Jen McCready

    Jen McCready

    Hope Mills

I became a trainer because, after changing my life with fitness, I wanted to help others realize they can change theirs too. I've a professional Trainer for over a year now.

Fitness is a lifestyle, not a hobby. Changes don't just happen; you have to make them happen.

I prefer to utilize the NASM opt model, focusing first on stabilization and building the core, progressing to strength, endurance and power. I believe that work in the gym needs to be balanced with body and mind.

Currently, I have worked with an older, diabetic woman for about a month. Her goals are to lose 75 pounds and come off all her meds. In one month, her blood sugar has stabilized enough to cut her meds in half.

  • Bowie Caison

    Bowie Caison

Long Leaf, North Carolina - 15 years in fitness

I became a trainer so that I could aid others in achieving success in a healthier lifestyle and prolonging life. I help my clients achieve results by having an understanding of their goals in mind. Each client is different in their own way, so whats most important is listening and implementing a proper routine that best fits him/her. My number one passion in the training world is seeing others transform themselves and succeed after the effort and sweat has been shed. That inspires me!

"We are what we repeatedly do; excellence, then, is not an act but a habit." -Aristotle

  • Theodore Courman, Jr.

    Theodore Courman, Jr.

Morehead City, NC - 7 Years in fitness

I became a trainer because I've always believed that no matter what, in order to make someone else happy you must first be pleased with yourself. The key to that is taking care of your body!

I get results by doing something I learned from my strength and conditioning coach back in high school football, a method called "shocking the body," continuing to change the workouts so the body can never plateau.

My philosophy on training is simple: "Every day off is a day lost," which means if you didn't get better that day then in my opinion you got worse. My number one passion is results! There is nothing more gratifying than a client looking at him or herself in the mirror and being truly happy about the body they have created, and they tell you "thank you, you've helped me change my life!"

My most vivid success story would be when I first found out I could really train. My first assignment as a sophmore at Appalachian State was to create a nutrition, cardio, and resistance training program. After recieving my grade I remember thinking I'd like to know if this really works, so I gave it to my mother who had been trying to use a diet program to lose weight. After only 4 weeks she had lost 8 lbs and 1.5 inches off her waist. That was when I thought I could really be good at this. She went on to lose 33 lbs over the next 8 months.

  • Karen Wagner

    Karen Wagner

I work in Morehead City, NC. I've been in the fitness industry for about 32 years now. I have help all types of clients accomplish their goals!

I love helping others and I am very passionate about helping my clients reach their "realistic" goals and educating them on the importance of nutrition and exercise for life long success.

Keep moving forward! You can't reach your goals unless you go after them!

Training has a wide variety "flavor". Muscle confusion is what I love to do for everyone. Keep the muscles so confused they cant do anything else but respond! Most of all I like to keep it fun! My specialty is Tabate training.

One of my clients is a very busy mom of four kids. She started a 12 week challenge with me. She worked out with me 2 times a week and on her own 3 times a week. At the end of the challenge she had lost 28lbs. 21.25 inches and her body fat is down by 7.1%. She is now one of our trainers!

  • Andi Grant

    Andi Grant

My club is in New Bern. I've been in the fitness industry 20 plus years!!!

12 years of being a United States Marshal and working in the physical training department for the government, I wanted to put the education and skills I had received and direct them towards the private sector. While the general public may not have a need for physical training to withstand high stress situations, there is a need for every person to maintain a healthy lifestyle and be active. I chose to transfer these skills to a gym environment to help people feel good about themselves and achieve better quality of life.

"The only easy day was yesterday". Aerobic and anaerobic work should be progressive. Each day you train should be an improvement, even ever so slight. One more rep, one more set, one more different exercise than the day before so you can be stronger than the previous day.

My approach is to start on a comfortable level with my client and progress forward gradually. Becoming physically fit and healthy is as much psychological as it is physical. I do not advocate over training a client to the point of immobility in our initial sessions. It is self-defeating for the client and gives them little incentive to return the following session.

My training specialty would be to take the "rookies" in the fitness world and introduce them to a new way of life. I liken it to teaching a "blind man to see."

I've worked with all types of client. I had a female client that lost 103 pounds!!! Several clients that were able to eliminate their need for high blood pressure medication and antidepressants. Teaching a client with only one leg how to do aerobic exercise and lift weights with his lower body. Those are just a few of my favorite success stories!

  • Keith Sudler

    Keith Sudler

Fayetteville, NC - 16 Years in Fitness

I became a trainer to change lives and promote healthly lifestyles, allowing people to live life at their best.

I get results for my clients by changing attitudes, giving motivation and giving the no quit attitude - everything is possible, by any means necessary! My philosophy of training is to utilize strength resistance, athletic plyometric and functional training methods to improve your health and life, not just your appearance.

My passion is changing lives, seeing people's dreams come true, allowing people to be the best they can be and living long and living strong. I have been a part of countless clients' life changes from "165 pounds most weight lost in a year," to "most weight lost in a month 26 pounds." Being healthy is success, this is what I do!

  • Stacey Zimmer

    Stacey Zimmer

I work in Giant Fitness in Lindenwold, New Jersey. I've been in the Fitness Industry for 2 years

I became a trainer because I had graduated from Ursinus College with my Bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sports Science and I wanted to use the knowledge I had gained.  I am currently taking classes toward my Master's in Wellness and Lifestyle Management through Rowan University.  I am a very motivated person and I enjoy reaching out to help others and myself.

I believe that fitness is a lifestyle change.  My clients will not only have an amazing total body workout, but also leave sessions with the tools they need to adopt a new, healthy lifestyle.  To me, getting a client to see that this can become part of their daily life is success.

I believe in a combination of strength and cardiovascular training.  I use high repetitions and timed exercises to keep a client's heart rate elevated throughout the duration of the session.  The exercise does not have to include a treadmill or elliptical to give cardiovascular benefits.

I had a client who was going through a tough time.  She was close to being depressed when I started working with her.  We talked each session while we were exercising and found that she could change her situation.  We used her sessions to motivate her to change.  Just as she was exercising and eating healthy to change her health and weight, she learned that she could change to improve her situation outside of the gym as well.  Exercise became her motivation through other aspects of life.

  • Alex Choiniere

    Alex Choiniere

I work in the Waterford, CT Work Out World

I've spent 6 years in the Fitness Industry as a professional Trainer.

I became a personal trainer after years of tinkering around and experimenting in the gym, yet not receiving the results that I desired.  I started to educate myself on the human body and how it works, and I fell in love with it.  I love the fact that I get to educate people on how to lead a healthier lifestyle.  Everything from the friendships you grow with your clients, to pushing people to be better every day, I absolutely love my job.

My fitness moto and philosophy to training is, "no regrets."  I believe that you should never do anything that you will regret later.  No one should look back on a day and say I should have done more in the gym, or I should have eaten better.  If you think you will regret something, do not do it.  This could mean giving up and leaving the gym before your workout is completed, to eating a desert.  No one should ever feel the pain of regret, yet rather bask in the greatness of accomplishment.

The things you get to do for people as a trainer are amazing.  I helped a sixty five year old gentleman who had just returned from rotator cuff surgery go from not being able to lift 5 pounds over his head, to being able to do sets of 20 pull ups, 65 push ups, and 60 pound overhead presses.  I have helped a woman who was told by her doctors that she should get bariatric surgery lose 89 pounds and prove the world wrong.  I have helped an elderly woman who couldn't go on vacation because the plane ride would cause severe pain in her lower back, to being able to drive with her grandkids from Connecticut to Florida and be able to carry her own luggage up three stories to her hotel room.  I have also helped a professional MLB player increase his 60 yard dash time.  All of these accomplishments were a pleasure to be a part of.

  • Brandon Singleton

    Brandon Singleton

I got into Training because I wanted to help others achieve their goals in health and fitness. It feels great to help change people's lives!

Nothing easy is worth having! So get out and earn it!

My basic approach is to assess each client and create an individualized plan that fits their goals. My training specialty, I would say, is attention to detail which increases their overall performance in all aspects.

All clients are successful who stay motivated and continue to push forward. I encourage all my clients on their individual successes!

  • Carlos Lorberfeld

    Carlos Lorberfeld

I work in the Golds Gym, Racine, Wilmington, NC. I've been in the industry for about eight years now!

After being a regular member at Golds I was recruited by a manager after he saw my sincere interest in always striving to learn about exercise. Since I am a former high school teacher, personal training and coaching was very natural to me.

"Every little bit helps." I tell my clients that every moment of activity and every smart choice of food will help your body achieve its potential.

My approach to training, particularly with general conditioning and weight-loss, is to emphasize compound movements while maintaining an elevated heart rate. My specialty is developing programs for clients who have physical limitations.

One client has been with me for seven years! He is a superb example of how fitness can slow down the aging process-his pressure, cholesterol, and glucose are all healthy. And, in his 50s he visibly looks ten years younger!

  • Lisa Ferry-Hearn

    Lisa Ferry-Hearn

I've bee involved in the Fitness Industry for 30 years! So I'm very proud to say that I have helped a lot of people accomplish goals and change their lives. That's why I got into the business. I love to motivate, educate, create positive and healthy body images for my clients.

Take one day at a time and progress will come, so stay positive no matter what! Don't just train your body,  train your mind and body. You mindset is the foundation to your physical success!

Basic approach training and your training specialty: Creating an individualized meal planning and fitness programs that are fun and dynamic. My specialties include cardio fitness, cross training , Circuit training , body building, gymnastics, core training, strength and conditioning, and bootcamps.

Client's goals aren't always to loss fat and/or gain muscle, it can be a lot more important than that. For example, I had a client, Juliana  who was going to have surgery, so we trained to get her strength up prior to the surgery and afterwards we trained to get back to full strength, flexibility and posture back to normal and better than ever! This a very rewarding job!!!

  • Edward Gordon

    Edward Gordon

I work in our Anaheim, CA Workout World location. This is my first year in the fitness industry, but I have been my own trainer and client for three to four years.  I became a trainer to help people achieve their health goals, just like I achieve my own.  I lost a total of 60 lbs through exercising and nutrition.  My bachelors in Kinesiology help pay the way to losing that fat, and I want to use my knowledge to help others who are in the same situation.

My approach to training is "never say never", and "I can't do that."  Those are negative attitudes that will not be motivational to push through the workout.  My main focuses with clients are whole body exercises, but my specialty is strength training and building more muscle.  My client in only a matter of a few months have shown progress of losing inches on their waist and building more muscle mass, while reducing body fat.

  • David Seymore

    David Seymore

I'm a Trainer at Gold's Gym in Morehead City, NC.  I've a Professional Trainer for 12 years of experience.

I became a trainer when I was working in the gym as at the front desk and had an opportunity to make more money. I then found that I really loved to workout myself and others to reach their full potential. I then motivated other by setting an example of how to improve by focus and passion.

I live by the philosophy of "It all starts with a commitment and finishes with showing up to do the work."  I feel that it is important not to just make the commitment, but you have to follow through.

I am extremely passionate about cross training to make your workouts fun and challenging. It is important for you to push yours self in different areas to help create muscle confusion and boredom.  I have a passion to incorporate functional exercising in all my workouts.

I have had many clients over the years but my favorite is my 92 year old that I have had for the past 5 years.  She was very active throughout her life but came to me and wanted to stay that way.  I keep helping he maintain the strength she has and have improved her flexibility
also.  She makes me know that it is never too late to start working out.

    Wilmington (Long Leaf), NC

    Years of experience: 5

I became a trainer because I just love fitness and how it makes me feel physically and mentally. My passion is working out and striving to see how strong I can become in every aspect; strength, cardiovascular. I wanted to share and inspire others to do the same by setting an example myself and holding them accountable to having a healthy life style.

My approach is simple, be consistent with both in exercise and diet. That is the only way to get and maintain results. First, learn proper form and control your diet. Once you've learned that, then we can move on to more challenging aspects of training.

  • Steve Downing

    Steve Downing

    New Bern, NC Golds Gym

I worked for Professional Fitness for 2 years now. The reason why I became a trainer is I love to help motivate clients' to their goals and push them past their limits.  I am most pleased when clients' reach their goals and maintain the healthy and active lifestyle that they have acquired while training with me.

My mindset is simple. If you believe and say, "I can", then you will. If you believe, "I can't", then you will not!

My approach is to first evaluate your level of fitness, see what you can and cannot do. Then set small goals in order to achieve your larger goals. It's much easier to take several small steps than one big one!

  • Mayra Segura

    Mayra Segura

    Modesto, CA

I became a trainer because I have a natural love for health and fitness, I love to see others change their lives through hard work and dedication; promote healthy lifestyles, allowing people to live life at their best and see how they can accomplish their goals through fitness. It is my priority to provide the safest and most efficient program for each client based on age, goals and physical capabilities.

I believe good health & well-being would not be possible to achieve without proper nutrition, good sleeping habits and stress management. The best results come not from the trainer setting goals, but from listening to the individual client and helping them understand what it is they really want to accomplish and together designing a plan of action. All of the work that we do inside the gym is dependent on maintaining good habits outside of the gym by changing attitudes, giving motivation and the no quit attitude. EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE! by any means necessary… I get the best results for my clients by helping them become passionate about fitness so it is more than just a workout. It becomes a long, happy, and rewarding new life. The challenge is finding the right balance between all the above components. "I'm your guide to find it"

My philosophy of training is to utilize strength resistance, and functional training methods to improve your health and lifestyle, not just your appearance. I TRULY BELIEVE THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN FAILURE IS NOT TRYING… In training it is vital to begin a client on basics of mobility and stability before introducing them to challenging weight training, I am passionate about training clients properly, see my clients do things they never thought they would be able to do, and the emotional transformation that happens after the big change.

I measure my success on my clients' satisfaction: knowing that what I am doing is inspiring others to harness the power of a happy, healthy lifestyle. There is no greater reward than knowing that you've improved someone's health and given that person a new lease on life and see the client come to the gym with the biggest smile on their face and enjoy the new lifestyle they now live and seeing the transformation in my clients' body, mind and soul. Every client I train is a success story!!!

"Service to many, leads to greatness", "Help as many people get what they want and you can have anything you want"

My approach is to build rapport, relationships, communication and having a solid strategic plan to follow through. Identify and listen closely to the person or client I am working with and "find something in common with that person". Design and specialize a program for that person so they know I care.

Client Testimonial: "The level of service has been remarkable! I've seen improvement that I have not ever experienced before. I had a severe 7 millimeter herniated disc that was so uncomfortable I was unable to drive in my car more then 1 hour. After the 1st month and half working with Kevin, not only is the pain gone but I have also lost an extra 12LBS and 8 inces off my waist. I will use this program the rest of my life."
